U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) Sailors toured the National Museum of the U.S. Navy at the Washington Navy Yard, Feb. 28.

The tour reinforced the command’s initiative on learning the history and heritage of Navy history under the Sailor 360 program.

“By going to the museum, these Sailors get to see Navy history with their own eyes,” said Chief Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Kevin Crockett, the leading chief petty officer of FCC/C10F’s Intelligence directorate. “When you can see something with your own eyes and listen to someone talk about the history of it, you get a better appreciation of the past. In the spirit of Sailor 360, we should know how our Navy started, how it has progressed to over the years and where we are at today.”

The Sailor 360 program is the Navy’s newest leadership training program designed to enrich the professional development of its enlisted Sailors. The program brings significant changes to how the Navy has traditionally trained enlisted leaders since 2011 and empowers commands to continue the leadership conversation through command-developed trainings.

“It gives Sailors a sense of heritage,” said Crockett. “It builds up in them a sense of pride in the uniform that they wear, to learn about people who have gone before them and see what people went through in past wars and battles.”

Learning about Navy history first hand was beneficial to the attending Sailors.

“As they say, ‘You don’t know where you are going until you know where you’ve been,’ said Information Technician 1st Class Calvin Elmore. “I feel like it’s one of those places that you could go back and learn something new every time. Learning about the past and how we got to where we are reinforces the values we have today and why we have the traditions we do because of the things that occurred in the past.

FCC is responsible for Navy information network operations, offensive and defensive cyberspace operations, space operations and signals intelligence.  C10F is the operational arm of Fleet Cyber Command and executes its mission through a task force structure similar to other warfare commanders. In this role, C10F provides support of Navy and joint missions in cyber/networks, cryptologic/signals intelligence and space.
