The guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) arrived in Halifax, Canada for a scheduled port visit, Sept. 7.

This visit reaffirms cooperation efforts between the United States and Canada and helps establish conditions for security and stability in the region as the two NATO allies work closely together to defend North America and ensure they are prepared to confront rapidly evolving threats, both from nation-state and non-state actors.

“We are honored and excited to visit this beautiful country,” said Cmdr. Errol Robinson, commanding officer of Arleigh Burke. “Our crew looks forward to enjoying this port visit and the relationships we expect to forge with our Northern allies. These types of engagements solidify relations and partnerships among the United States, our allies and partners.”

Over the course of the visit, Arleigh Burke Sailors will have the opportunity to partake in several Morale, Welfare and Recreation tours, see many historical sights and experience the rich culture of Canada and its citizens.

Halifax, an Atlantic Ocean port on the eastern seaboard of Canada, is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. The city is a major business hub that is known for its maritime history and is one of the oldest seaports in the region.

Arleigh Burke, the first ship in the class of Arleigh Burke guided-missile destroyers, is deployed as part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG). With USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as the flagship, deploying strike group assets include staffs, ships, and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group Eight (CSG 8), Destroyer Squadron Two Eight (DESRON 28) and Carrier Air Wing One (CVW 1).

HSTCSG departed Norfolk Aug. 28 to continue its scheduled deployment to support maritime security operations, provide crisis response capability, and increase theater security cooperation efforts and forward naval presence in the U.S. 2nd Fleet area of operations.
