From NAVFAC Southeast Public Affairs

NAVFAC Southeast awards $31.7 million task order to URS Group, Inc. Sept. 17 for construction of phase two of Hurricane Irma repairs at NS Mayport and NAS Jacksonville.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $31.7 million task order under a previously awarded multiple award construction contract to URS Group, Inc. out of Morrisville, North Carolina September 17 for construction of phase two of Hurricane Irma repairs at Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville.

The work to be performed under this modification provides for a modified/hybrid design build where the contractor is required to provide a designer of record for the design development and design, construction submittal approval and oversight of all identified repairs as a result of Hurricane Irma.

“Hurricane Irma caused a wide variety of damage to the NAS Jaksonville marina,” said NAS Jacksonville Public Works Officer Cmdr. Sylvester Adamah. “This project will restore the NAS JAX Marina and boat ramp to the pre-hurricane state of fully usable and maintainable.”

Damages at the marina include structural pile damage and a wide array of damage to the floating dock system and the Mulberry Cove mooring field.

Repairs at NS Mayport include shoreline erosion; replace the small craft basin tower; repairs to the exterior of MWR Building 245 to include windows, doors and walls; road repairs,  associated utilities and infracstructure at Mayport Patrol Road/Magazine Road to accommodate anticipated increase in heavy commercial traffic; and new roofing systems for flat roofs at Building 1488.

Work also includes any and all ancillary and incidental mechanical and electrical support services needed to accomplish required work including, but not limited to, disconnects, temporary reconnects, removals, extensions, modifications, alterations, reinstalls, new components, and permanent reconnects necessary for functional operation.

Overall a total of seven projects, five at NS Mayport and two at NAS Jacksonville.

After award of this modification, the total task order value will be $36 million.

All work will be performed in Jacksonville, Florida and is expected to be completed by September 2020.
