The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) wrapped up a week of events with NATO partners by anchoring off the coast of Portsmouth, England, Oct. 6.

“We value the opportunity to further strengthen our relationship with a trusted NATO partner and one of the U.S.’s oldest allies,” said Commander, Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, Rear Admiral Gene Black.

For more than 70 years, the U.S. and the like-minded nations of NATO have advanced freedom, openness, peace, and prosperity across a free and open European region, and partners like the U.K. are fundamental in this process.

“We will continue to operate closely with our European partners and allies as we work together toward achieving our common goals in the region” added Black.

During the port visit, Truman Sailors will have the opportunity to take part in a number of tours around some of the oldest and most revered naval sites in Europe.  Portsmouth has the world’s oldest dry dock and is home to more than half of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet.  Additionally, Sailors are a train ride from Stonehenge and the diverse metropolis of London.

“Whether it's viewing a masterpiece of theater, enjoying the world-class cuisine or exploring the scenic countryside, our Sailors are excited to discover this beautiful country and enjoy a well-deserved opportunity to immerse themselves in British culture,” said Truman’s Commanding Officer, Capt. Nick Dienna.

Currently operating in the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations, Harry S. Truman will continue to foster cooperation with regional allies and partners, and remain vigilant, agile and dynamic.
