NEX Pearl Harbor made available a variety of this season’s new children’s toys and games to Toys for Tots program. The two-day process, Oct. 17 and 18, brought together a collection of toys and other gifts from NEX Pearl Harbor’s Toyland tent and across the sporting goods department.
U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt.Charles Darling-Romain, Toys for Tots Hawaii Coordinator, visited NEX Pearl Harbor along with his staff to select toys for children ages 17 and under. The Toys for Tots team purchased a total of 1,633 units of toys ranging from construction toys and board games to interactive toys and hair-coloring kits. All together the toys took up six whole pallets and loaded on to truck heading to the homes of some very deserving children.
“For NEX Pearl Harbor to participate in Toys for Tots this year was quite a humbling experience,” said Steven Hagedorn, NEX Pearl Harbor, Toys Department Manager. “I am so thankful I got the opportunity to assist with the program from the beginning stages of the toy collection process.”
Along with Steven, many other NEX Pearl Harbor associates participated in the program scouring the season’s newest and best toys. Associates proudly helped to pick out the perfect toys and pack them up so Toys for Tots can deliver them to less fortunate children, whose families cannot afford to buy gifts during the holiday season.
As the Marines were loading up the truck, Staff Sgt. Darling-Romain, gave a shout to NEX Pearl Harbor on social media, “Aloha! Again a huge mahalo to the staff at the Pearl Harbor Navy NEX! You guys rock! Thank you for making our purchase so easy and catering to our needs. We will definitely be coming back…”
