NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound streamlines operations with new customer service facility

Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Puget Sound officially opened a new customer service space during a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at its NAS Whidbey Island facility Oct. 22.

Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Puget Sound officially opened a new customer service space during a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at its NAS Whidbey Island facility Oct. 22.

The ceremony was the culmination of an initiative to streamline and consolidate NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound’s Aviation Supply Department activities in order to increase operational efficiency and improve customer service.

“The new customer service space increases customer accessibility to our products and services by centralizing our customer service desk alongside the senior supervisors.  This affords opportunities for easier customer access and if necessary, quicker problem resolution.  Although our ribbon cutting ceremony was a low key event, it marks an exciting milestone in our continued efforts to improve on our bottom line of delivering products and services to the fleet quickly and efficiently," said Capt. Bernie Knox, NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound commanding officer.

The new space also allows for all of the NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound Aviation Supply Department administrative and logistics support functions to be located in the same area.

“We now have one central location for all of our activities - hazardous materials and aviation supply warehouses, product shipping and receiving, contracting, purchasing, and aircraft fuel administrative support and quality control functions,” said Richard Dutton, Deputy Director of the NAVSUP FLC Puget Sound Aviation Supply Department.

Dutton initially proposed the project to take advantage of some available space in the existing NAVSUP facility in order to consolidate functions and improve communication and coordination between Team Whidbey’s various logistics support activities.

“We used to have offices scattered around the base.  Having everything in one place simplifies our communications and processes, making our operation much more efficient and responsive to the customer’s needs,” said Dutton.

"This project, conceived by one of our employees, embodies what the NAVSUP reform initiative is all about.  It involved taking a hard look at how we currently do business with the goal of determining how we can best leverage our resources to respond to the needs of our customers," said Knox.
