TSCHR Names Sailor of the Year

29 October 2018
Training Support Center Hampton Roads (TSCHR) announced the selection of the 2018 TSCHR Sailor of the Year (SOY).

Training Support Center Hampton Roads (TSCHR) announced the selection of the 2018 TSCHR Sailor of the Year (SOY).

Capt. Matthew Rick, TSCHR commanding officer, sent out an all hands email congratulating Electronics Technician 1st Class Jamal Justice on his selection. Justice will be recognized at a November awards ceremony.

Justice survived a highly stringent screening process and won out over five outstanding candidates to garner selection as TSCHR’s SOY. Justice, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, is stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana Dam Neck Annex and serves as the Information Technologies Field Support/Cyber Support Technician Leading Petty Officer. Justice was chosen as the No. 1 sailor from TSCHR’s 5 sites.

"I am very proud to be named Sailor of the Year," said Justice. "Representing TSCHR is a tremendous experience and the highlight of my career.”

“As always, the competition was stiff this year for this selection. Kudos to the board and great job to all the nominees in preparing and their performance in the selection process,” said Rick.

TSCHR’s SOY will now compete for the Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) SOY award. Justice along with NETC’s finest sailors will be carefully screened. Justice doesn’t plan to wait idly for the final selections to be made. He is currently working on obtaining a bachelor’s degree in computer networks and cybersecurity, University of Maryland University College.

Justice attributes his success to his parents and his mentors: retired Lt. Cmdr. John Hopkins and Chief Logistics Specialist Michael Clark, “They’ve given me guidance throughout my career while pointing me in the right direction to the path of success,” said Justice.
