Members of NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville deployed to Naval Support Activity Panama City (NSA Panama City) to provide critical logistics support in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, Oct. 11-21.

Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida panhandle as a Category 4 storm, Oct. 10, unleashing damage and devastation on the base infrastructure and regional homes, businesses and schools. NAVSUP FLCJ immediately deployed Sailors as part of an Enterprise Logistics Response Team (ELRT) to the installation to support recovery efforts and assist base commanders and tenant commands with supply support, postal operations, fuel operations and clean up.

The ELRT is a quick-response team composed of active duty and reserve sailors who are qualified for critical skillsets in logistics functions, including postal operations, material handling, contracting/purchasing, fuels operations and hazardous material management. The team can deploy in a matter of hours in support of a contingency or emergency response operation anywhere in the world.

“The Sailors who deployed as part of the ELRT ran toward the sound of need and leveraged the entire NAVSUP Enterprise to support the installation’s recovery,” said Capt. Matt Ott, commander, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Jacksonville. “While we are one segment of the response effort, the people who live and work at the base were significantly and personally affected by this disastrous hurricane. Their resiliency in recovery is a reminder of the toughness, grit, and empathy required to bounce back after a major storm. They remain in our thoughts and prayers as they rebuild.”

The ELRT’s most-recent activation was in 2017 to the Southeast region and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

NAVSUP FLC Jacksonville is one of eight FLCs under Commander, NAVSUP.   Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.
