The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21) arrived in Plymouth, England for a scheduled port visit, November 13.

New York recently completed Trident Juncture 18, a large scale NATO-led exercise. The ship participated in a simulated beach assault conducted in Norway as well as many surface, air and ground exercises tailored towards enhancing interoperability and coordination between the U.S. and 31 other partnering nations.

“We are excited to visit Plymouth, which has a deep connection to our Country,” said Captain Brent DeVore, commanding officer aboard New York. “For our Sailors to see a town, steeped in history, bombed in war and steadfast in a nation's fight against the world's darkest evil is inspiring.  We are honored to have the chance to strengthen our bonds of partnership following the NATO exercise Trident Juncture, where we served alongside our UK and other NATO counterparts.”

While in Plymouth, the ship will host the U.S. Ambassador for England aboard for lunch and a ship tour.

The Sailors and Marines will be able to enjoy historical landmarks like Stone Henge, the National Aquarium, the Dartmoor Zoological Park, and the Smeaton’s Tower while in England.
