Navy Recruiting District Seattle Changes Command

19 November 2018

From Navy Recruiting Command Public Affairs

Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Seattle, Washington, held a change of command ceremony, Nov. 16.

Cmdr. Tamara V. Trank was relieved as commanding officer of Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Seattle, Washington, by Cmdr. James Presler during a change of command ceremony, Nov. 16.

Trank was instrumental to Navy recruiting since her arrival at NRD Seattle in September 2015. Under her leadership, NRD Seattle achieved 100 percent accession in active and reserve missions, 140 percent in the Nuclear Field mission, and 168 percent in the Navy ROTC mission, ultimately placing more than 3,600 highly qualified Sailors and officers in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves. Her insistence on the highest standards of integrity and accountability resulted in a Recruit Quality Assurance Team disclosure rate of 2.07 percent, the lowest in Navy Recruiting Region West.

Additionally, her active involvement in the professional development and well-being of her Sailors resulted in 10 officer promotions and 53 Sailor advancements, to include the most E-7 advancements in Navy Recruiting Command’s history. Her “Stay Navy” attitude led to the achievement of a 98 percent retention rate, earning Seattle its first Retention Excellence Award in five years.

“This is a special day in many ways,” said Trank. “It has been such a privilege to work with the wonderful men and women of NRD Seattle, seeing so many of them grow and advance in their own careers. I will cherish the memories of the time I’ve spent here.”

Trank’s relief as commanding officer of NRD Seattle comes well prepared for his new job, as he has served as the executive officer of NRD Seattle during Trank’s time as commanding officer. “Cmdr. Trank has set some high standards for the district,” Presler said. “I look forward to continuing the rich traditions during my time as C.O.”

The Navy’s recruiting force totals over 6,100 personnel in more than 1,000 recruiting stations around the globe. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.

NRC consists of a command headquarters, two Navy Recruiting Regions, 21 Navy Recruiting Districts and 5 Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 1,000 recruiting stations across the country.
