The Naval Education and Training Professional Development Center (NETPDC) announced, Dec. 4, the selection of Education Services Specialist Catalina Delgado as Civilian of the Quarter for the fourth quarter and Civilian of the Year for 2018.

The Naval Education and Training Professional Development Center (NETPDC) announced, Dec. 4, the selection of Education Services Specialist Catalina Delgado as Civilian of the Quarter for the fourth quarter and Civilian of the Year for 2018.

Delgado was recognized for her innovative thinking and problem-solving. In the fourth quarter, Delgado was able to create a unique training plan for the Voluntary Education (VOLED) virtual support center, which included travel to Italy and the Kingdom of Bahrain to provide training to standardize division practices.

According to her nomination, Delgado spearheaded efforts to provide Sailors with virtual face-to-face communication using Skype for Business. Delgado trained her fellow education counselors on the new capability, enabling more than 100 Skype for Business counseling sessions with Sailors across the fleet.

Delgado was also recognized by her supervisor, Chris Cruz, Navy VOLED virtual education capabilities director, for incredible leadership during Hurricane Florence.

“Despite being shut down for two-and-a-half days due to the hurricane, Catalina’s leadership and training efforts enabled the Navy College Virtual Education Center to maintain exceptional service and availability to Sailors through Live Help Now chats, e-tickets, and Skype for Business counseling,” said Cruz. “Catalina’s ability to lead through a crisis makes her an exceptionally-valuable asset and team member.”

When asked about her double selection as COQ and COY, Delgado noted she is just part of an outstanding team.

“I feel humbled because there are so many talented people here at the command; I know that it must have been a tough choice,” she said. “I love the job I do, and to be recognized for it is just a cherry on top!”

During a visit to the Navy College Virtual Education Center, Dec. 4, NETPDC Commanding Officer Capt. Kertreck Brooks presented Delgado with her awards.

“I am motivated every day by the outstanding example set by the incredible team that is Navy VOLED,” said Brooks. “It is members like Catalina Delgado who offer creative solutions that help NETPDC achieve its mission despite of obstacles like natural disasters. Their efforts have a direct impact on improving the personal and professional lives of Sailors across the fleet.”

NETPDC’s mission is to provide products and services that enable and enhance education, training, career development, and personnel advancement throughout the Navy. Primary elements of the command include the Navy Advancement Center, the Voluntary Education Department, and the Resources Management Department.
