Operational Health Support Unit Portsmouth held a change of command ceremony at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Dec. 7.
During the ceremony, Capt. Kenneth L. McAndrews Jr. relieved Capt. Alison Eagleton as OHSU Portsmouth commanding officer.
Commissioned as a lieutenant junior grade in October 1991, Eagleton obtained her Baccalaureate of Science in nursing from the University of Tulsa and Master of Science in nursing administration from the University of Oklahoma.
Eagleton assumed command of OHSU Portsmouth, December 2016.
“I want to thank my family for believing in me,” said Eagleton. “I have been mobilized. I have been deployed. I have been recalled to active duty many times. I have missed many significant events over the last two years, and my family was always by my side. They are my greatest accomplishment.”
A native of San Diego, McAndrews received his direct commission into the Navy Reserve as a lieutenant in February 1997 and assumed command of OHSU Portsmouth after serving as assistant specialty leader, pharmacy (Reserve) for the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery from 2013 to 2016.
"I congratulate Captain Eagleton and her family on a job well done on a command that is ready, willing and has the capability and capacity to deliver world-class health care to warfighters and their families, anywhere, anytime,” said McAndrews.
McAndrews’ Navy Reserve assignments include: executive officer and director for administration, Expeditionary Medical Facility Camp Pendleton from 2014 to 2018; and command training officer, deputy director for administration, officer in charge, assistant officer in charge, detachment administration officer, and pharmacy department head while assigned to OHSU San Diego from 1997 to 2013.
OHSU Portsmouth, with its distributed detachments, provides the Navy Reserve with medical support and training throughout the Military Health System.
