More than 100 staff, family members and friends were in attendance at Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit (CSCSU) Great Lakes spring fling May 5.

Hosted by CSCSU Petty Officer Association (POA), the event featured carnival games, face painting, bounce house, pie-in-the-face competition, snow cones and cotton candy.

"The CSCSU Great Lakes Petty Officer Association hosts the event annually to bring everyone at the command and their families together," said instructor Interior Communications Electrician 1st Class Michael Love, leading petty officer for Apprentice Technical Training and president of POA at CSCSU Great Lakes. "It's a great opportunity to have fun with the entire command. In addition to all the activities we have for children, we also have a pie-in-the-face event for staff to raise money for more events like a Fall Festival and Children's Christmas Party."

The top five nominated E-7 and above and the top five E-6 and below had the honor of receiving a pie-in-the-face from a fellow CSCSU Sailor. Each nomination cost $1.

CSCSU Great Lakes Chief Petty Officer Association provided the food, grilling hot dogs, burgers and ribs, as well as sides and desserts.

"The event was a complete success," Love said. "Everyone got together strengthening the bonds within the command and boosting morale. It was also a great opportunity to welcome new staff members and their families."
