Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain junior Sailors volunteered over 150 hours of community service working as coaches for the Department of Defense (DOD) Child and Youth Programs (CYP) in Bahrain from Nov. 1 to March 10. NAVSUP FLC Bahrain Sailors, logistics specialist seaman Ian Schlueter and Logistics Specialist Seaman Ryan Palladino, volunteered as youth coaches to ensure that children learn sports and comradery while stationed overseas. As youth coaches, Schlueter and Palladino worked with over thirty 4th and 5th graders to develop skills both on and off of the field. While coaching both football and soccer each of the teams had winning seasons. "I find that when I'm coaching the youth, I learn just as much from them as they learn from me. Helping kids to learn sports, develops social skills and team building abilities," said Schlueter. "We make sure our team puts in hard work and dedication in an effort to instill in them the core values that are instilled in us as Navy Sailors." The extensive volunteer work shows the dedication of NAVSUP Sailors and the progress they have made as new leaders in the U.S. Navy. "It's incredibly rewarding to give back to the DOD community in any way that I can. The children we coach learn to work as a team to accomplish a centralized mission of not just winning but playing a good game," said Palladino. "It's nice to give back and pay it forward for the next generation and pass down what the Navy has taught me." NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is one of eight FLCs under Commander, NAVSUP. Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.
