Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a task order, totaling nearly $17 million, May 15, to Environmental Chemical Corporation of Burlingame, California, for Hurricane Matthew repairs at the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Underwater Testing and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) on Andros Island in the Bahamas, a detachment of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport in Rhode Island.

The contract calls for a modified/hybrid design build project where the contractor will be required to provide a Designer of Record (DOR) for design development and design, construction submittal approval and oversight of all repairs, such as building exteriors, roofs, fences and lighting, as a result of Hurricane Matthew, which struck AUTEC as a category three/four storm in October 2016.

The contract will also include all ancillary and incidental mechanical and electrical support services needed to accomplish the work necessary for functional operation.

"We are excited about this partnership and getting work underway with the contractor," said Cmdr. Craig Shillinger, officer-in-charge of AUTEC. "Repairs that will be done with this hurricane Matthew recovery effort will enable AUTEC to support the Fleet well into the future."

The task order also contains seven unexercised options which, if exercised, would increase the task order value to just under $34 million and would provide for additional fencing and lighting, security upgrades and corrosion resistant fencing.

Work is expected to be completed by June 2019.
