Grey Knights Show Support for Bowl for Kids' Sake

The "Grey Knights" of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46 participated in a volunteer event called Bowl for Kids' Sake, hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Island County (BBBS), at Oak Bowl May 5.

Each team consisted of five players and the VP-46 team, which included Logistics Specialist 1st Class Rob Matlock, Logistics Specialist 1st Class Dominique Lofton, Naval Aircrewmen (Operator) 1st Class Justin Castro, Naval Aircrewmen (Operator) 1st Class Alicia Phifer and Aviation Machinist's Mate 1st Class Dwayne Cepeda raised a total of $725 for the local community during the fundraising event.

"It's a good opportunity to bring us and the community together," said Matlock.

BBBS is a preeminent youth-service organization with a century of experience in providing mentors for children. The purpose of Bowl for Kids' Sake event was not only to raise funds for BBBS, but also to raise awareness of the program's impact in the local community.

According to Lofton, this was not his first time giving back to the community. He added throughout his naval career he looked forward to opportunities such as this that brought fellow Sailors together for a healthy cause.

The Sailors from Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island have a long history of providing support to BBBS. According to their 2017 report, 39 percent of active BBBS volunteers were military members.
