Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific awarded today a $24 million firm-fixed price contract to AECOM Construction, Inc. of Arlington, Virginia for construction at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Darwin.

"We are pleased to announce the first construction contract award while working in conjunction with the Australian U.S. Force Posture Initiative team," said NAVFAC Pacific Deputy Commander for Operations Capt. Michael Monreal. "This is an exciting time not only for NAVFAC Pacific, but for our Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force partners as we work under the leadership of U.S. Pacific Command to enable the military mission in the Pacific, while enhancing opportunities within the local Australian economy."

The work to be performed provides for four additional airfield-rated concrete paved parking spots with asphalt shoulders; the installation of four additional Type III fuel hydrant pits connected to existing fuel lines; and relocation of existing fuel isolation valve pits at RAAF Base Darwin. Supporting facilities include installation of airfield ground lighting, stormwater collection and treatment system, jet blast deflectors and construction of an asphalt access drive.

Work will be performed in Darwin, Northern Territory of Australia and is expected to be completed by October 2019. The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website with four proposals received.
