More than 650 recruits at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes participated in their pass-in-review (PIR), becoming basically-trained Sailors, June 1.

Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Commanding Officer Capt. Mark Meskimen spoke to the recruits about what lies ahead in their Navy careers by sharing his experience going through boot camp nearly 35 years ago.

"During my graduation on 16 February 1983, I was standing out there just like you listening to my reviewing officer, retired Capt. Benjamin Fish, wondering what is in store for me in the future," Meskimen said. "I will tell you, the opportunities today are limitless. You can do so much in our Navy. One of you may very well be a future master chief petty officer of the Navy, or a future commanding officer of Recruit Training Command or maybe even a future chief of naval operations."

Meskimen served as the reviewing officer for the ceremony and presented awards to the top Sailors during the PIR.

Following the ceremony, Meskimen met individually with six Sailors who earned awards and their families to congratulate them on their accomplishments and remind them to never forget the lessons learned during boot camp.

"Your future is unlimited," he said. "If I can impart one thing on you, do the right thing every day to the best of your ability no matter what it is."
