Navy Expands Cyber Warrant Program

Navy announced the implementation of warrant officer 1 (WO1) pay grade (W-1) for cyber warrant officers and the application process for fiscal year (FY) 2019 and FY 2020 WO1 selection boards in NAVADMIN 140/18 released June 4.
Navy announced the implementation of warrant officer 1 (WO1) pay grade (W-1) for cyber warrant officers and the application process for fiscal year (FY) 2019 and FY 2020 WO1 selection boards in NAVADMIN 140/18 released June 4. The message also provides updates to the cyber warrant officer program career path. Sailors eligible to apply for WO1 must be an E-5 or above Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN), have between six and twelve years of time in service (TIS), and possess at least one of the following Interactive Operator Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) codes: H13A, H14A, H15A, H16A (previously 9308, 9326, 9327, 9328 respectively). Currently there are 26 E-5, 23 E-6, and 6 E-7 CTNs who meet the requirements for WO1 selection. The FY 2019 and FY 2020 boards will each select three Sailors for WO1. Appointment to WO1 incurs a six-year service obligation from date of appointment, and Sailors must serve a minimum of three years as a WO1. WO1s are required to complete a minimum of 12 years of TIS before promotion and commissioning to CWO2. Established in 2010, the Cyber Warrant Officer program identifies, develops, and commissions technically proficient Sailors to operate, analyze, plan and direct full-spectrum cyber operations.
