The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) held a change of command ceremony on Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, July 27.

Capt. Marc D. Boran relieved Capt. D. Wilson Marks as the 16th commanding officer of Chancellorsville.

The ceremony honored the end of a successful tour for Marks. While in command, he served as the Air and Missile Defense Commander for Battle Force Seventh Fleet during multiple patrols in the Philippine Sea, South China Sea and Sea of Japan. Marks led Chancellorsville through a 14-month docking ship restricted availability period and first successful 18-week Basic Phase certification for Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan.

Marks will remain in Yokosuka, Japan, and assume command of Naval Surface Group Western Pacific.

Boran previously served as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff to Commander, Expeditionary Group 7.

"I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead the extraordinary officers, chiefs and crew of this fine ship with a superior reputation. As we look forward together, we must be ready to fight and win," Boran said.

Chancellorsville is forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and assigned to Carrier Strike Group 5 supporting security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
