The American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) will be holding a certification program for the Navy engineering community at Surface Warfare Officer School Unit (SWOSU) Great Lakes Oct. 23 to Dec. 4.
ASOPE is a licensing bureau that trains personnel in the operation and controls of Power Engineering. The Combined Cycle (Combustion Turbine) Engineer (3rd class) course will be instructed by all prior military personnel. Once successfully completed Sailors will receive the ASOPE Combined Cycle Gas Turbine 3rd Class Operator certification, which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor.
“The course is very beneficial to those who would like to continue their education,” said Gas Turbine Systems Technician Mechanical (GSM) 1st Class Bruno Mauro, instructor at SWOSU GSM ‘C’ School and ASOPE Program Coordinator. “Any personnel wishing to take their military engineering skills and begin to transfer them to where they are marketable, or any active duty engineering personnel wishing to increase their level of knowledge should look into this course. Those people who complete the course tend to move on to the power industry as a control operator.”
The deadline to reserve a seat is Oct. 1. For more information and to reserve a seat please contact GSM1 Mauro at bruno.t.mauro@navy.mil.
