Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Headquarters held a remembrance program in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for military and civilian personnel Jan. 11 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

The Department of Defense carries forward the theme, "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A day on, not a day off!" Honoring Dr. King's life and legacy, Americans must continue to work together to strengthen their communities and the Nation as a whole.

Capt. Robert Williams, Deputy Assistant Commander for Corporate Operations, began the program with an inspirational look at the Reverend Dr. King's upbringing and how that made him the man who wanted to make a difference for not one person, but for all people.

Honored guests, Mr. Michael Joyner and Mrs. Betty Joyner, ministers from the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Pa., paid tribute through word and song. Mr. Joyner gave a resounding recital of the "I Have a Dream" speech from the March on Washington in 1963, while Mrs. Joyner provided two musical solos that echo King's vision.

NAVSUP Command Deputy Equal Employment Opportunity Officer, Zachary Currier, spoke on King's commitment for peace and equality and the profound impact the "I Have a Dream" speech had on the audience that day in 1963 and all Americans still today.

Williams concluded the program with, "Will you be a part of the Dream?".

In a message to the NAVSUP workforce, Rear Adm. Jonathan Yuen, NAVSUP commander, encourages all to renew their commitment to volunteering and helping others not only on this day, but throughout the year.
