CNATTU Lemoore Receives 2017 Project Good Neighbor Award

The Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Lemoore was recognized as the Navy Community Service Program Project Good Neighbor Flagship Award winner in the small shore command category Jan. 12.

CNATTU Lemoore was also recognized with an honorable mention as small shore command for the program's Health, Safety and Fitness Flagship Award.

Both awards are designed to recognize commands that engage in exemplary voluntary community service activities and initiatives.

CNATTU Lemoore Commanding Officer Cmdr. Tommy Edgeworth said the awards indicate the steps Sailors and Marines assigned to the command are taking to ensure the positive relationship with the surrounding communities continues to flourish.

"These awards recognize the outstanding support from the Sailors and Marines who are dedicated every day to promoting health, safety and fitness around the local community," said Edgeworth. "These are also a testament and tribute to the culture within the command, it's the staff which makes these awards possible through hard work."

Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Carmen Fielding, volunteer service program coordinator, said 260 volunteers participated in more than 30 community outreach events contributing more than 1, 100 hours.

"I am honored to be a part of a command that is so involved with the community and giving back," said Fielding.. "It's great to see our peers, especially the junior Sailors, dedicate their off-duty hours to help those in need. They are true Navy ambassadors."

The command was honorably mentioned in the Health, Safety and Fitness Flagship Award for volunteering nearly 1,000 hours at 19 different events during 2017. Aviation Maintenance Administrationman 1st Class Kathalynn Perry and Aviation Maintenance Administrationman 1st Class Charles Hubbard led volunteers assisting with the King's County Special Olympics and area high school athletic competitions.

CNATTU Lemoore was also one of 12 commands nominated by community service region coordinators for consideration for the USS Bainbridge (CGN 25) Award for Overall Excellence in Community Service.

CNATTU Lemoore is a training unit specific to the F/A-18 Hornet platform, and is part of Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT), headquartered at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. CNATT develops, delivers and supports aviation technical training at 27 sites located throughout the continental United States and Japan.

CNATT is a technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) an organization designed to advance and sustain Naval Aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost, and is a training center under Naval Education and Training Command (NETC).
