The supply department sales division (S-3) aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) donated more than $25,000 to the ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), Oct. 6.

The funds came from the profits generated from its ship store and vending machine sales during deployment.

"Earning profits to give back to the crew is one of the sales division's goals each accounting period," said Lt. j.g. Daniel Dulac, from Newington, Connecticut, the disbursing officer aboard Princeton. "This was the largest donation in my two plus years [aboard], and we couldn't have done it without the hard work of the sales team, which is constantly doing breakouts and restocking the store and vending machines."

The ship's store offers Princeton Sailors the chance to buy a wide variety of items while at sea.

"We sell toiletries, energy drinks and snacks for the Sailors," said Ship's Serviceman 3rd Class Charles Johnson, from Fort Worth, Texas. "It makes me happy to see when people, enlisted to officer, are excited to come to the store and grab a snack or two."

The MWR program aboard Princeton hosts events and activities for Sailors while at sea and in its homeport of San Diego.

"These contributions are a huge help to the success of the MWR team aboard Princeton," said Chief Gunner's Mate Trayvon T. Turner, from Long Beach, California, Princeton's MWR coordinator. "Every Sailor contributes to the profits that are raised, and we want to give back to the hard-working crew through events such as tours during deployment and this year's holiday party when we arrive back home."

Princeton is deployed in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
