The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, Oct. 20, 2017, for a scheduled port visit to enhance U.S.-Portugal relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous Europe.

McFaul's visit strengthens the enduring relationship between the two allied countries. These types of visits demonstrate commitment to regional stability and maritime security in this vital region of the world.

"This crew is really excited about this port visit as it provides us with an opportunity to interact and meet with the people of Lisbon, as well as the chance to experience the rich history and culture of Portugal." said Cmdr. Joseph Bromley, commanding officer of McFaul.

While in port, McFaul engaged in several Morale, Welfare and Recreation events including a friendly game of soccer between McFaul Sailors and the Portugal navy team and the remodeling of a local children's shelter.

McFaul, homeported in Norfolk, conducted maritime operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests.

Commissioned in 1998, McFaul is the 24th Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer. McFaul is named after Chief Petty Officer Donald McFaul, a Navy SEAL who lost his life during Operation Just Cause in 1989.
