Crew members of the Navy's future USS Sioux City (LCS 11) will arrive in Sioux City, Iowa Nov. 8, to participate in Veteran's Day events around the city.

Visiting their namesake city, the Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Sailors will participate in the First Annual Veteran's Day ceremony presented by the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) Misty Cadet Corps; visit local JROTC programs; volunteer in community events; and present the Colors during the National Anthem at a Musketeer's hockey game.

"We are really excited to return to Sioux City after last year's successful visit," said the ship's prospective commanding officer, Cmdr. Randy Malone. "We have made a strong connection already, but could not pass up an opportunity to acquaint more of our Sailors with our ship's great namesake and let the people of Sioux City meet the crew of their ship."

For one Sailor, Chief Fire Controlman Jonathan Branch of Tampa, Florida, this will be his first trip to the state of Iowa.

"I am very excited to visit Sioux City, especially during Veteran's Day," said Branch. "We are preparing a ship of which the entire Siouxland area can be proud and it is an honor for us to get to know our namesake city and its citizens."

Once commissioned, Sioux City will be the sixth LCS constructed by Lockheed-Martin. It is currently under construction at Marinette Shipyard, Wisconsin and is expected to commission this spring, in Annapolis, Md.
