The Sales and Services Division (S-3) on board the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) was awarded the Ships Store Retail and Service Excellence Award for submarine tenders during a ceremony in the ship's store, Nov. 8.
The Sales and Services Division (S-3) on board the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) was awarded the Ships Store Retail and Service Excellence Award for submarine tenders during a ceremony in the ship's store, Nov. 8.

The award is presented by the Navy Exchange Service Command and is presented for outstanding professionalism and significant contributions made by ships store personnel in improving the quality of life for their shipmates.

Chief Ship Serviceman JoAnn Maldonado was the leading petty officer for S-3 during the time the division was evaluated. She said the award is a testament to all the hard work that the Sailors of S-3 division put in.

"I'm proud of my guys," said Maldonado. "They stayed up late while everyone else was asleep. It paid off for everyone. I'm proud to see them get the recognition they deserve."

The criteria the judging is based on include diligent record keeping, properly receiving items, and preventing any unmatched expenditures. They are also judged on the overall satisfaction of the crew.

"Customer service plays a big part in us receiving the award," said Maldonado. "The crew had a chance to give us feedback and say if they like the ship store. We value their input."

Cmdr. Robert Corley, supply officer for Frank Cable, said it is an honor to be a part of a premier customer service team that has received continuous praise since he came on board.

"The appreciation for Sales and Services Division's exceptional efforts from our very own Frank Cable crew is what made this recognition extra special," said Corley.

Frank Cable, currently in Portland, Oregon, for a scheduled dry-dock maintenance availability, is home-ported in Guam and conducts maintenance and support of submarines and surface vessels deployed in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
