Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific announced the 2018 NAVFAC civilian and military engineer of the year field command award winners, Nov. 7.

The eight winners representing NAVFAC Pacific, Far East, Hawaii and Marianas include Keith Yoshimoto, civilian engineer of the year from NAVFAC Pacific; Patrick Roybal, civilian engineer of the year from NAVFAC Far East; Lt. Cmdr. John Casilio II, military engineer of the year from NAVFAC Far East; Susumu Yonahara, host nation engineer of the year from NAVFAC Far East; Ruey Hwu, civilian engineer of the year from NAVFAC Hawaii; Lt. Thomas Stock, military engineer of the year from NAVFAC Hawaii; John Salas, civilian engineer of the year from NAVFAC Marianas; and Lt. Timothy Dahms, military engineer of the year from NAVFAC Marianas.

"Please join me in congratulating all the awardees for their continued hard work and impressive contributions to our NAVFAC engineering community," said NAVFAC Pacific Commander Rear Adm. John Korka. "Each year we have an elite group of nominees and this year was no different. I would like to extend my personal 'well done' to all of the NAVFAC Pacific area of responsibility nominees."

These employees were selected based on education, professional registration, continuing education, professional and technical society activities, awards and honors, civic and humanitarian activities, and engineering achievements.

NAVFAC participates in the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Federal Engineer of the Year Award program to recognize exceptional contributions our federal engineers make to the engineering profession, to our supported commanders, and to the communities they serve. From the award winners from each field command, NAVFAC selects a civilian and military engineer of the year. These two individuals are each then nominated as the NAVFAC candidates for the prestigious NSPE Federal Engineer of the Year award.

The overall winners selected to represent NAVFAC at the NSPE Federal Engineer of the Year Awards Ceremony are Calvin Austin from NAVFAC Washington, who received the 2018 NAVFAC Civilian Engineer of the Year Award, and Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Thrun from NAVFAC Southeast, who received the 2018 NAVFAC Military Engineer of the Year Award.

The awards ceremony will be held, Feb. 23, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., at which time NSPE will announce the 2018 Federal Engineer of the Year.
