Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) continues to provide high-quality accommodations to military travelers, adding 50 new and 105 renovated guest rooms at three Navy Installations Command bases.

"All new and renovated rooms meet our high quality standards that contribute to mission accomplishment and quality of life for all travelers," said program manager for Navy Lodging Tamara Davis. "We offer value, convenience, stellar customer service, quality amenities, a safe environment, and very affordable rates."

The second and third floors of historic Hermann Hall at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Monterey, Caliornia, were completely renovated in October now boasts 54 standard queen rooms, 19 executive rooms, and four executive suites, totaling 77 guest rooms. Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River, Maryland, reopened 35 standard queen rooms in August and Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans, Louisiana, welcomed the addition of 50 new standard queen guest rooms in June, ensuring all first floor rooms are Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.

Davis said that NGIS is the priority-one lodging program for Navy travelers on official orders and continues to improve lodging services while helping the Navy save money.

"Staying at Navy Gateway Inns and Suites guarantees that travel funds spent provide the opportunity for improvements to DOD lodging and facilities for the warfighting community," Davis said. "We have a responsibility to ensure that federal funds are used for purposes that are appropriate and cost effective."

NGIS guests should expect a business lodging atmosphere. All lodging facility in-room standards amenities include Wi-Fi, air conditioning, safety box, cable television with premium channels, telephone service, microwave, refrigerator, free in-room coffee, and free newspapers. NGIS locations also offer housekeeping services, a business center, vending machines, guest laundry facilities; handicapped access, convenient on-base free parking, and all guest rooms are non-smoking. For guest's convenience and safety NGIS is now operating payments with chip and pin credit card.

DOD travel policy requires military members on official orders to a government installation to stay at government lodging facilities when available and directed in their orders/authorization. Temporary Duty (TDY) personnel (to include civilians) traveling to select DOD locations are directed to book lodging in the Defense Travel System (DTS).

"When booking lodging for several sequential days in DTS, the system may display no availability due to one room not being available on one of the days selected," said Davis. "We advise travelers to call NGIS central reservations for assistance before requesting a certificate of non-availability. This will ensure government lodging will be utilized as required by policy."

Reservations at NGIS are made on a first-come, first-serve basis without regard to rate or rank in the following order of priority, individual and group TDY travelers, permanent change of station travelers, DOD civilians and leisure (space available) travelers, retirees, and reservists.

TDY reservations can be made at any time using DTS, by phone, or on the website. Group reservations ensure all group arrangements receive individual attention and all mission requirements are met. Non-duty reservations may be made up to 30 days in advance for up to a seven night stay by calling 1- 877-NAVY-BED or at ]dodlodging.net
