The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stout (DDG 55) held a change of command ceremony on Naval Station Norfolk, May 19.

Cmdr. Daniel Broadhurst relieved Cmdr. Adam Cheatham as commanding officer in front of family, friends and shipmates. Distinguished guests included Rear Adm. James Malloy, commander, Carrier Strike Group 2, and Capt. Scott Switzer, commodore, Destroyer Squadron 26.

Under Cheatham, Stout and her crew conducted a successful deployment in support of Ballistic Missile Defense and Operation Inherent Resolve in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation from May 2016 to November 2016.

"It has been an honor to have led team Stout for the past 18 months," said Cheatham. "I am deeply honored to have had the privilege of serving with such positive, professional, and hardworking Sailors."

Cheatham, a native of Hershey, Pennsylvania and a University of Maryland graduate, will report for joint staff duties at the Pentagon. He previously served aboard USS Nassau (LHA 4), USS Normandy (CG 60), USS Gary (FFG 51), and USS Independence (LCS 2).

Cmdr. Broadhurst takes command as Stout continues her sustainment phase following a six-month deployment during which he served as Stout's executive officer. Following her sustainment phase, the ship will conduct a five-month maintenance availability period in Norfolk.
