Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Detachment Atsugi was recognized at the Yokosuka, Japan-area, 2017 Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Awards Luncheon April 28 on board Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka.

CNATT Detachment Atsugi NMCRS coordinators received six awards during the luncheon: Highest Per Capita Donation for Atsugi area commands; a second place award for Highest Percentage of Participation; 100 Percent Contact in the Command; Outstanding Command Performance in Per Capita Donation; Outstanding Command Performance in Percent Participating and the Regional Excellence in Improvement Award.

Commander, Naval Forces Japan Rear Adm. Matthew Carter and NMCRS Yokosuka Director Jill Warning presented the awards.

CNATT Det. Atsugi Officer-in-Charge Chief Warrant Officer 5 Norman Valentine commended CNATT Detachment Atsugi service members on the support they gave to a the organization whose purpose is helping those in the military.

"Leadership was the first to donate and expressed their overwhelming support for the program from the beginning," said Valentine.

NMCRS holds a four week drive each year to raise funds used to support Sailors and Marines with varying types of assistance. Each command has a designated representative to coordinate the fund drive, and each command assigns individuals to facilitate the event at their location.

The 2017 NMCRS fund drive began Feb. 27 and concluded in April 2017. CNATT Detachment Atsugi began the drive with a presentation to the command highlighting the available benefits NMCRS provides, and included personal stories from CNATT Detachment Atsugi Sailors who had used the service.

"We are very tight knit like a family," said CNATT Detachment Atsugi NMCRS Fund Drive Key Person Aviation Storekeeper 1st Class Adam Thornbrugh. "We had a good conversation with the Sailors when we presented the fund drive. Personal experiences from people in the command who have benefited from the services NMCRS offers made a huge impact and really drove home what the program is about for those who had never heard of or used it."

Warning noticed early in the drive that CNATT Detachment Atsugi's efforts were beginning to be successful. Warning spoke on the steps the command took through the Fund Drive process to command NMCRS representatives at the awards luncheon as a model for others to follow.

"The Regional Excellence in Improvement Award is based on numerous factors for all commands participating from Yokosuka, Atsugi and Misawa," said Warning "This award represents the volunteer leadership of CNATT Det Atsugi's Key personnel, the command triad and unit responsiveness to meaningful contact."

CNATT Detachment Atsugi delivers and supports aviation technical training through various "C" and "F" school courses as the only schoolhouse available to Forward Deployed Naval Forces.

CNATT is the technical training agent for the Naval Aviation Enterprise, an organization designed to advance and sustain naval aviation warfighting capabilities at an affordable cost, under Naval Education and Training Command.
