Mr. James DeLorenzo, Executive Director of Naval Supply Systems Command Business Systems Center (NAVSUP BSC) retires after 41 years of service to his country.

He received the Distinguished Civilian Service Award from the Secretary of the Navy for his many years as an Information Technology (IT) professional, visionary, strategist, pioneer, innovator, and military logistician. The Secretary commended DeLorenzo for providing the Navy with the strategic vision and direction needed to deliver an ever-increasing range of services to the operating forces of the Navy.

The Secretary said, "DeLorenzo distinguished himself as a brilliant IT professional, business reengineering analyst, and an organizational agent. His strategic vision and direction were crucial in providing an ever increasing range of services to the operating forces of the Navy. He delivered value-added solutions for key customers within the highest echelons of the Department of Defense and the Department of the Navy."

The Secretary highlighted DeLorenzo's transformational role in helping other Navy organizations improve their business operations, while growing NAVSUP BSC's capabilities and workforce, saying, "He successfully led the transition of Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) operations from a commercial integrator to a largely civil service workforce and delivered nearly $200 million of critical business services to Navy Systems Commands, helping them achieve financial auditability, increase their buying power and improve inventory management.

The Secretary commended DeLorenzo's role in making useful information readily available to all. He said, "[DeLorenzo] championed "Big Data" initiatives and brought the Navy Business Intelligence Services (NBIS) program to life, propelling the Navy's data-driven decision-making capability to permanently impact Fleet readiness."

During his retirement luncheon, DeLorenzo bid farewell to the NAVSUP BSC workforce. "When you ask someone in the military how they are doing, they often say they are 'Living the Dream.' He added, "Well I can honestly say that for the past 15 years I have been living the dream. The workforce here is dedicated, caring and top-notch in my book... Although it is time for me to move on, I expect to continue to hear good news stories from NAVSUP BSC... Thank you for the contributions you have made in making my past 15 years of Federal Service a memorable experience."

DeLorenzo's combined government service includes 26+ years as a Navy Supply Corps Officer (Captain, Retired) and 15 years as a GS-15 civil servant with NAVSUP BSC. He became Executive Director of Naval Supply Systems in December of 2002. Mr. DeLorenzo is retiring in the Mechanicsburg area, where he will be honing his golf skills and perfecting his culinary prowess.
