Nine Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Whidbey Island First Class Petty Officer Association (FCPOA) members volunteered to rehabilitate an Oak Harbor area baseball field June 2.

CNATTU Whidbey Island FCPOA spread dirt, removed areas of sod and performed general maintenance on the Fort Nugent Baseball Field as part of a Chief Petty Officer (CPO) 365 community relations event. CNATTU Whidbey Island FCPOA President Aviation Machinist's Mate 1st Class Davenport said the volunteer effort provided more than just an opportunity for CNATTU Whidbey Island FCPOA members to work together.

"Being able to help out in this community is something we hold quite dear," Davenport said. "We live here, and providing a service to this community is something which stems further than what we do as Sailors and instructors - we're part of this neighborhood and city."

Davenport added that the CNATTU Whidbey Island FCPOA also volunteered to maintain the Fort Nugent Baseball Field throughout the upcoming season.

Oak Harbor Parks and Recreation Operations Manager Hank Nydam supervised the nine Sailors and provided assistance in removing sod and soil.
