As the Navy prepares for Hurricane Irma, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) is aiding the Hurricane Harvey relief by providing supplies, services and quality-of-life support.

"Our Navy Supply Community is proud to support the people of Texas who were devastated by Hurricane Harvey," said NAVSUP Commander Rear Adm. Jonathan Yuen. "We are always at the ready to serve America's needs and are planning and preparing now to provide response support for Hurricane Irma and future storms."

NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Jacksonville, NAVSUP FLC Norfolk, and Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) have been providing logistics support to recovery efforts, with site directors at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville, NAS Corpus Christi, NAS JRB Fort Worth, NAS JRB New Orleans and NAS Pensacola directly aiding impacted commands and Emergency Operations Centers.

NAVSUP FLCs provided aviation sustainment kits and on-site support personnel to ensure uninterrupted search and rescue (SAR) operations by helicopter squadrons HSC-28, HSC 7, HM-14 and HM-15. NAVSUP FLCs ensured that fueling operations returned to service immediately following the storm.

Navy Exchange facilities in Kingsville and Corpus Christi, Texas, re-opened within 24 hours after the storm made landfall. NEX personnel coordinated deliveries of water, generators, food and other emergency supplies to help meet the needs of the community. To aid first responders, the Navy Exchange has extended shopping privileges to Federal Emergency Management Agency's workers at NAS Corpus Christi.

In support of the relief effort, NAVSUP FLC Norfolk coordinated the rapid on-load of more than 400 pallets of food, general cargo and medical supplies, enabling USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) and USNS William McLean (T-AKE 12) to get underway to the impacted region.
