Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Bahrain Sailors and staff participated in Lean Six Sigma Champion training, Sept. 17-18, to understand how continuous performance improvement (CPI) can help them "champion" strategic improvements for their command.

"The champion class was composed of a diverse cross-section of leaders from various products and services," said Bryan Pilgrim, NAVSUP headquarters master black belt. "Throughout the class, that diversity fueled rich discussion focused on growing a workforce looking to raise the bar even higher."

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain participated in the training to integrate processes for various personnel working together to achieve the mission. Champion training enabled NAVSUP FLC Bahrain to identify processes which require improvements for streamlined operations through teamwork to increase productivity and efficiency.

"As owners of processes, the champion training empowered participants with the tools needed to help their green belts with potential Lean Six Sigma projects," said Peggy Haire, interim CPI lead at NAVSUP FLC Bahrain.

The interactive class allowed NAVSUP leadership to apply basic Lean Six Sigma and theory of constraints concepts to work scenarios to see how some of these techniques can lead to changes. Participants were able to apply the concept of basic process management and understand the importance of aligning project objectives with the organization's mission and vision statement.

Since receiving champion training, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain leadership has already started implementing new policies and providing guidance to improve processes across the organization.

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain provides full spectrum operational logistics support and quality-of-life programs to Navy, joint and coalition warfighters, Department of Defense civilians, and their families in the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility.
