The supply and logistics department of Camp Lemonnier (CLDJ) began consolidation of a storage facility nicknamed the Texas Yard in December 2016.

Over the years, the facility fell into disarray with containers of equipment and supplies abandoned or forgotten by tenant commands which have since left CLDJ.

CLDJ Logistics Department Officer in Charge Cmdr. James F. Hormozi challenged Chief Logistics Specialist Cordelia Magwood, a Navy Reservist from Norfolk, to lead the charge in the consolidation process.

"When I approached Chief Magwood with this project, I told her that I want the Texas Yard to become the West-Texas Yard ... flat," said Hormozi.

Space is needed as CLDJ continues its transition from an expeditionary base to enduring installation facilities. The Texas Yard occupies over three acres of usable land, peppered with over 300 storage containers.

"The first step we took was to inventory the [Texas] Yard and reestablish the layout of it; after that we reached out to our tenant commands to claim their containers," said Magwood.

Units were directed to consolidate and label their respective containers. Containers which had not been claimed were opened and identified by Magwood and her team.

"We have found various pieces of usable office equipment and supplies left by tenants over their deployment cycles," said Magwood.

Magwood's effort in the consolidation and eventual elimination of the Texas Yard not only means more room for future facilities, but it saves money as well.

"Through the reutilization of the serviceable shipping containers, supplies, and equipment, we have saved taxpayers nearly half a million dollars," said Magwood.
