Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) hosted a visit to its Philadelphia site by Rear Adm. DeWolfe Miller, director, Air Warfare, deputy chief of naval operations (DCNO) for warfare systems and Anjanette Knappenberger, deputy director, Air Warfare, DCNO for warfare systems Jan. 11.

During the visit, NAVSUP WSS senior leadership gave Miller and Knappenberger an overview of organizational structure and roles and discussed financial, procurement, and allowancing decision-making processes.

"We feel that we represent the Naval Aviation Enterprise as the supply answer," said Rear Adm. Duke Heinz, commander, NAVSUP WSS. "Our team of experts does great work here and can always be counted on to get the job done right."

Miller and Knappenberger also discussed various aircraft type/model/series (TMS) accomplishments and challenges in order to facilitate better supply support and process improvement across the board.

"Each TMS has its own story and its own challenges," Heinz said, "and all of us here are on the same team to overcome them. We're all working for the Naval Aviation Enterprise in order to increase warfighter readiness. "

The leadership team also focused on tools to improve the working relationships between DCNO, NAVSUP WSS, and industry stakeholders, such as strategic industry engagements which have helped boost sustainment as an industry priority.

Another such tool the team talked about was the P-8 Logistics Cell (LOGCELL), designed to improve P-8 Poseidon readiness by providing a barrier-free and technologically-enhanced workspace for cross-functional team collaboration and problem solving. There, Miller and Knappenberger saw the LOGCELL's real-time data analysis capabilities firsthand.

At the conclusion of the visit, Miller and Knappenberger expressed their confidence in NAVSUP WSS's ability to provide world-class fleet supply support for naval aviation and looked forward to continuing their strategic partnership with the command.

A field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command, NAVSUP WSS is the U.S. Navy's supply chain manager providing worldwide support to the aviation, surface ship, and submarine communities. NAVSUP WSS provides Navy, Marine Corps, joint, and allied forces with products and services which deliver combat capability through logistics. There are more than 2,000 civilian and military personnel employed at its two Pennsylvania sites. The NAVSUP WSS Philadelphia site supports aircraft, while its Mechanicsburg site supports ships and submarines.
