A media news company which assists the military veteran community, We Are The Mighty 25, announced Navy Reservist Capt. Dan Goldenberg as one of The Mighty 25 Veterans to Watch in 2017.

The award recognizes the top 25 nominated veterans throughout the United States -- veterans who are making a difference through innovation and leadership within the government, health care, business, education, entertainment, and advocacy.

"I'm deeply honored to be in the company of so many terrific veterans, many of whom I know and work with," said Goldenberg. "My kids, however, think it's cool that I'm on the same list as Kylo Ren."

Goldenberg, a 24-year Navy veteran and current commanding officer of Defense Intelligence Agency 1194, received the recognition for his leadership and advocacy as the executive director for the nonprofit organization, Call of Duty Endowment.

"The endowment was launched in 2009 with the mission of funding the placement of veterans into high-quality careers, and ensuring employers understand the value of veterans in the civilian workplace," said Goldenberg. "We scour the landscape of over 43,000 veteran serving nonprofits to find and fund the most efficient and effective nonprofits in America that help veterans land high-quality jobs."

Goldenberg attributes his duties and experience serving in the Navy to assisting him within a growing civilian organization.

"I think the empathy and respect for my shipmates and fellow vets gives me the drive to work my hardest in this role, and I always remain focused on the mission," said Goldenberg. "The Navy also taught me to prioritize separate signals from noise, and that measurable results matter tremendously."

Goldenberg recalled a philosophy which works very well for him. He applies it successfully both inside and outside the Navy, and advises veterans transitioning from active duty or Reservists to apply it, too.

"My first year in the Navy I learned that leadership is pretty basic; get the mission done well and take care of your people," said Goldenberg. "It's a mutually reinforcing proposition. Many employers want to hire vets, but you have to meet them halfway. Giving them the courtesy of being well prepared in knowing what you want to do, understanding their needs, and knowing how to translate your military experience to show them how it supports their business objectives is a recipe for civilian career success."

The Mighty 25 list was established by a team of veterans in 2014 and brings awareness to America's veterans, creates jobs for the veteran community, and offers solutions to challenges faced transitioning to the civilian sector.
