NCTAMS LANT Det. Rota Wins DISN Facility of the Year

Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic (NCTAMS LANT) Det. Rota received the 2015 Department of Defense Information Network Category II Transmission Facility of the Year award, Sept. 19.

This is the second consecutive year NCTAMS LANT Det. Rota has won this category, and the fifth time in the last six years competing with 15 other sites located throughout Europe.

Lt. Gen. Alan Lynn, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) director, presented the award to NCTAMS LANT Det. Rota virtually through a video conference call.

"It's an awesome feeling," said Lt. Cmdr. Michael Laraya. "We have folks here that can run the entire mission set here at NCTAMS. I rely on these Sailors and they never let me down. They are awesome!"

The detachment's Systems Control Facility provided unparalleled service for 52 circuits, providing communications services to more than 4,500 customers in 22 locations across 9 countries in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. Their dedication and "One Team, One Fight" mentality is directly reflected in their 99.7 percent circuit reliability rating.

"We enjoy our job and the mission," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Kolton Henrie. "We provide important services and ensure the units here can succeed in their day-to-day mission."

Other accomplishments that were instrumental in being selected as the award winner was maintaining Communications Security (COMSEC) material support and training to 437 users while maintaining 1,250 COMSEC Material System line items without discrepancy or incident. Personnel also directly supported and assisted in five DISA site visits and eight circuit installations. Their specialists directly supported and provided data and telecommunications services to 17 deployed U.S. Navy assets including four Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers forward-deployed to Rota.

Naval Station Rota enables and supports operations of U.S. and allied forces and provides quality services in support of the fleet, fighter, and family for Commander, Navy Installations Command in Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia.
