Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center (NAVSUP FLC) Sigonella was formally recognized for its community relations (COMREL) contributions in support of Naval Air Station Sigonella (NASSIG), Sept. 24, 2016.

"Corriere della Sera," one of Italy's top newspapers, recognized NAVSUP FLC Sigonella in an article entitled, "That is how the U.S. service members help the weakest."

The article thanked the NASSIG team for its selfless volunteer hours to the Italian community in 2015, serving up to 150 projects. These projects supported the island of Sicily's churches, historical sites, orphanages and schools.

Over 1,200 American personnel contributed 8,000 hours of volunteer service, earning them the award as best "Project Good neighbor."

NAVSUP FLC Sigonella gave a tremendous amount of support contributing to the NASSIG COMREL team by providing 32 percent of the volunteers, 10 percent of the projects, and 17 percent of the hours served in 2015. In doing so, NAVSUP FLC Sigonella demonstrated a great sense of altruism and love for their host land, Sicily.

"NAVSUP is a key command that helped see these projects through to success. They coordinated with me and were always available to assist," said Dr. Alberto Lunetta, NASSIG community relations director.
