Navy Region Japan Installations Earn Energy Gold

Five Navy Region Japan installations were recognized with fiscal year 2016 Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management Awards, Oct. 12.
Five Navy Region Japan installations were recognized with fiscal year 2016 Secretary of the Navy Energy and Water Management Awards, Oct. 12.

Naval Air Facility Misawa, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, and Fleet Activities Sasebo earned the Gold Level of Achievement for a "very good to outstanding energy or water program," and Naval Air Facility Atsugi and Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia earned the Blue Level of Achievement for a "well-rounded energy or water program."

"This is a great achievement for the installations recognized by the secretary of the Navy," said Far East Regional Energy Program Manager Michael Owens. "Improving energy culture is a top priority for us, and this shows we are moving in the right direction. We look forward to sharing best practices so all Navy Region Japan installations can be effective with their energy use and meet secretary of the Navy energy goals."

The Regional Energy Program office is the touch point for Commander, Navy Installations Command Energy Program and is responsible for coordinating efforts with Naval Facilities Engineering Command Far East and the region's many tenant commands on energy conservation and efficiency.

"We are all working together to meet the president's executive order of 25 percent reduction in energy use over the next 10 years, as well as continuing the Navy's goal of energy security and resiliency for the fleet and warfighter," said Owens.
