In a constant effort to improve the patient experience, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton held a Performance Improvement Fair Oct. 31.

Several NHCP clinics worked over the past year to find ways to improve performance for patients and staff at the hospital.

"The focus of Navy Medicine is patient safety, and continuous performance improvement is one of the major tools used to reach that goal," said Cmdr. Chad Baasen, NHCP chief medical officer. "This Performance Improvement Fair is an example of the various departments' efforts, and I expect it to grow each year as we improve the patient experience."

Some of the ways performance improvement initiatives are practiced in the hospital is ongoing training for staff members, building on patient and provider relationships and interaction, and constantly improving patient satisfaction and quality of care.

Presentations were judged in two categories -- Best Command Process Improvement, where hospital leadership chose their favorite; and People's Choice, where staff members and passersby voted on their favorite.

The winner for Best Command Process Improvement was the 31 Area Naval Branch Health Clinic for their presentation of the referral tracker, and the winner for People's Choice was the Main Operating Room for their presentation of improving operating room readiness.

Among the participants were NHCP's Optometry Clinic, Pharmacy, Family Medicine Clinic, Branch Health Clinic Yuma, 52 Area Branch Health Clinic, Main Operating Room, Education and Training, 31 Area Branch Health Clinic, Radiology, and Mental Health.
