The 37th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, Gen. Robert B. Neller and Assistant Deputy Commandant for Aviation (Sustainment), William E. Taylor visited the Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) Philadelphia site, Nov. 2.

During their visit, Neller and Taylor met with key leadership to discuss Marine Corps aviation platforms supported by NAVSUP WSS and the innovative solutions being used to drive material availability.

"I appreciate the tremendous work by the team (NAVSUP WSS) as we collectively improve aviation readiness throughout the fleet," said Neller.

Neller also mentioned aviation readiness is one of the topics that has his attention each day because of its importance to nearly every Marine Air-Ground Task Force.

Before Neller and Taylor spoke with directors of various Integrated Weapon Systems Teams, Rear Adm. Duke Heinz, Commander, NAVSUP WSS gave a high-level overview of the successes and challenges of various sustainment strategies employed by the command.

Discussion centered on the performance-based acquisition strategies of the F/A-18, H-53, and H-1 aviation platforms, as well as recent improvements to demand forecast models for Marine amphibious and expeditionary systems.

"The NAVSUP WSS business is driven by innovation with the goal of obtaining optimum sustainment solutions," said Heinz. "Today's visit generated some great dialogue, and allowed us to strengthen the Navy/Marine Corps partnership that will ensure warfighter readiness through improved material availability."

Before returning to Washington, D.C., Neller and Taylor took the time to thank the NAVSUP WSS leadership team for their efforts to improve future readiness capabilities of Marine Corps platforms.

A field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command, NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) is the U.S. Navy's supply chain manager providing worldwide support to the aviation, surface ship, and submarine communities.
