Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) hosted a Veterans Day event aboard Naval Support Activity, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Nov. 10, with nearly 300 people in attendance.

"To all veterans... I salute you and thank you from the bottom on my heart," said guest speaker retired Army Col. Maureen Hopkins Weigl, who currently serves on the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania's Military Veteran Task Force, and focuses on employment and transition assistance for service members and veterans. Weigl invited all persons attending to, "Be inspired, get involved and give back."

Discussing the challenges some veterans face when transitioning to civilian life, Weigl noted, "They can feel like they've lost purpose and passion, but they need to remember there are people out there who can help them."

She noted the importance of asking for help when needed, and to talk about their service to others, emphasizing that there are people who can help veterans. She also noted the need to get involved with the community, to help people in need, and give back.

"Today we celebrate tradition and heritage but we are also celebrating inheritance," said Rear Adm. Jonathan A. Yuen, commander, NAVSUP and chief of the U.S. Navy Supply Corps. "We've inherited traditions from our forefathers and it's our obligation to pass on these traditions to the next generation."

Keystone Capital Chorus provided music for the ceremony, including the National Anthem.
