Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) departed Piraeus, Greece, after a scheduled port visit Nov. 14.

Carney's visit strengthened existing maritime relationships between U.S. 6th Fleet and regional allies.

Halvorsen met with the Chief of Police for Piraeus, Brig. Gen. Konstantinos Foskolos; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Municipality of Piraeus, George Davakis; and the Deputy Harbor Master, Hellenic coast guard Capt. Georgios Alexandrakis, during various office calls in Piraeus.

Sailors aboard Carney toured many ancient sites including the Acropolis of Athens, the Parthenon, the Temple of Poseidon, and Delphi.

Strengthening partnerships during the port visit to Greece demonstrates the shared commitment to promoting safety and stability in the region, while seeking opportunities to enhance interoperability with allies like Greece.

The ship's presence in the Mediterranean is a demonstration of the U.S. Navy's continued commitment to NATO and the collective security of the European region.

Carney, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
