From naval global logistics nodes around the world, Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support (NAVSUP GLS) gathered Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) leaders for the annual strategic off-site meeting held at the Broadway Complex GLS headquarters, Nov. 7-10.

The strategic off-site meeting provided NAVSUP GLS leaders an opportunity to exchange innovative ideas and build united goals to ensure the best service to the fleet.

Attendees traveled to San Diego from the eight regional FLCs worldwide in the following locations -- Manama, Bahrain; Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk; Pearl Harbor; Puget Sound, Washington; San Diego; Sigonella, Sicily; and Yokosuka, Japan.

Leading the way in continuous improvement initiatives, Rear Adm. James McNeal, NAVSUP GLS commander, led the focus of the event -- aligning command objectives with NAVSUP, NAVSUP GLS, and the eight FLCs.

The first day of the meeting was broken into strategic off-site sessions where the FLC commanding officers met with McNeal, and the FLC executive directors met with NAVSUP GLS Vice Commander Bill Bickert.

The second day was a "sharpening the saw" event for all attendees, where instructors from Defense Acquisition University (West) in nearby Point Loma provided specialized training derived from their own curriculum.

The last two days were also joint sessions filled with briefs, discussions, and lessons learned gleaned from the entire meeting.

"We exercised our own principle of efficiency by holding the off-site meeting right here at the headquarters building," said Cmdr. Christian Mahler, McNeal's executive assistant. "The off-site provided a great networking opportunity with the FLCs from around the world, where we exchanged ideas and best-practices in how to better service the fleet -- our common end customer."

NAVSUP GLS provides global logistics for a global Navy. The organization is made up of approximately 6,300 military and civilian logistics professionals, operating from 105 locations worldwide providing an extensive array of integrated global logistics and contracting services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint operational units, and allied forces across all warfare enterprises.
