Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) arrived in Subic Bay, Philippines, Nov. 7.
Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) arrived in Subic Bay, Philippines, Nov. 7.

While in Subic Bay, the crew and the ship had technical assistance and received necessary parts and materials to perform maintenance on engineering and combat systems equipment.

In support of John S. McCain's Maintenance and Material Management (3M) program, Afloat Training Group (ATG) Western Pacific sent personnel to conduct 3M training with the Sailors on their roles and responsibilities in the overall program.

"When I first arrived on the ship, the program was new to me and hard to understand," said Seaman Cosmo Onks. "It is nice to have formal training and a better understanding of 3M now."

The crew was able to accomplish maintenance in addition to experiencing Filipino culture while in Subic Bay.

"It is nice to get off the ship for a good meal after a long day's work," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Jones. "Filipino food is awesome, and I enjoy going out into town and trying new places."

John S. McCain is one of eight guided-missile destroyers assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15 forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, and forward-deployed to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
