Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, Admiral Michelle Howard and Fleet Master Chief Raymond Kemp, Jr. came to Camp Lemonnier (CLDJ) to visit with deployed service members and tour the installation and tenant commands Nov.20-21.

Howard and Kemp met with CLDJ and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa leadership as well as U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti Thomas Kelly during her visit.

During her stay, Adm. Howard had the chance to share "Practical Pioneering", a presentation on tips to being successful in ground breaking environments.

Adm. Howard provided a definition of a modern woman pioneer.

"The Department of Labor describes occupations that have less than twenty-five percent employment of women as non-traditional work. If you are at the bow wake of that twenty-five percent, you are not only in non-traditional work, you are a pioneer." Howard said.

On a visit to the Coastal Riverine Squadron 11 (CRS-11) compound, Howard and Kemp took the time to record a Holiday Greeting to the Fleet with CRS-11.

This message included three questions that Howard challenged Sailors to think about over the Holiday season.

"Are you taking care of your family? Are you taking care of your shipmate? Are you taking care of yourself?" she asked.

After, Howard invited Sailors and Marines to ask her questions that were on their minds.

One Sailor asked why Adm. Howard continues her service when she has already achieved so much.

Howard simply replied, "For the Sailors."

Howard was the guest of honor at the Djiboutian National Police Academy hosted by Italian Carabinieri Il Colonnello Marco Di Stefano. She was introduced to ranking members of the Djiboutian and Somali National Police, and other Djiboutian officials.

During her visit, members of the Djiboutian National Police staged crowd control and room clearing demonstrations.
