Navy Exchange Service Command Enterprise, Camp Lemonnier, and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa leadership were present for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of CLDJ's brand new Navy Exchange.
Navy Exchange Service Command Enterprise (NEXCOM), Camp Lemonnier (CLDJ), and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) leadership were present for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of CLDJ's brand new Navy Exchange (NEX).

The new 10,000 square foot facility is over twice the size of the previous NEX and is a demonstration of NEXCOM's continuing efforts to improve the customer experience and quality of life for service members deployed to CJDJ.

NEXCOM CEO Robert J. Bianchi was in attendance for this historical event.

"This is a great day for NEXCOM, the installation, and our military service members here at Camp Lemonnier." said Bianchi.

As NEXCOM's only tension fabric structure retail store, it was designed with energy efficiency in mind.

"The store is super insulated to reduce the power required to cool it and nearly all of the lighting employs light-emitting diode (LED) technology." said Bianchi.

Once inside, service members can find expanded assortments in nearly all of the NEX's departments including: clothing, uniforms, electronics, food, health and beauty aids, and sporting goods.

The new layout is reminiscent to Navy Exchanges found throughout the world.

"For many service members, Camp Lemonnier can be their home for up to a year." said Commanding Officer Camp Lemonnier, Captain James H. Black. "This new NEX helps bring a little piece of home back to them even in this deployed environment."

This Navy Exchange project has been another successful step as Camp Lemonnier completes its transition as the only enduring U.S. installation within the Horn of Africa.

Camp Lemonnier provides, operates, and sustains superior service in support of combat readiness along with security of ships and aircraft detachments and personnel for regional and combat command requirements, enabling operations for the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-African nation relations. Camp Lemonnier enables the forward operations and responsiveness of U.S. and allied forces in support of Navy Region, Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia's mission to provide services to the fleet, fighter, and family.
