"I asked Santa for a Barbie dollhouse," said Tylia, a 6-year old Sullivan's Elementary School student, while leaving the Military Post Office on board Yokosuka Naval Base Dec. 1. "It made me happy, thank you."

She's talking about a recent field trip made by every kindergarten student at her school.

The students were told by their teachers that they would participate in a walking field trip to their local post office and while there they would be able to mail a letter to Santa.

When the students arrived they were greeted by Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Yokosuka Sailors and given a lesson on how letters and packages travel to the post office from anywhere in the world and into their parent's mailbox.

"I wonder what's in all these boxes," said Tylia.

With the holiday season in full swing the young students were able to witness firsthand the massive amount of mail that passes through the post office with many packages headed for final destinations under someone's Christmas tree.

"The children were able to see the mail process first-hand," said David Carrano, a kindergarten teacher at the Sullivans Elementary School.

All U.S. Navy Post Offices in the Far East are operated by NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka Sailors who enjoyed sharing what they do with the young community members.

"It was a fun time and the whole post office team was elated helping the kids and seeing how excited they were to see what we do," said Chief Petty Officer Anthony Michalski, NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka, Post Office leading chief petty officer.

A surprise visitor from the North Pole dressed all in red also dropped in to say hi to the students as well as help the Sailors hand out candy canes.

"The students absolutely enjoyed seeing Santa and being able to mail their letters off to him," said Carrano. "The post office was a fantastic experience for our students and we look forward to doing it again next year."

Of course the students are not the only visitors welcomed at the Yokosuka Post Office, as all community members wishing to mail letters or packages this holiday season are invited to stop in for a visit and ensure their loved ones receive that special parcel.

Providing the best possible postal services in support of 7th and 5th Fleet, 18 Forward Deployed Naval Force (FDNF) ships, 30,000 military and civilian personnel and all mobile units operating in the Asia Pacific area of responsibility is an enormous task that NAVSUP FLC Yokosuka personnel will continue to deliver on daily.
